FuelRate/FuelCon - Fuel Conditioning and Rating System
In the race to reduce CO2 emissions, the optimization of fuel conditions and the precise measurement of fuel during engine development are becoming increasingly important. Moreover, modern engines must be designed to save resources by reducing fuel consumption significantly.
Why?
To meet these ever increasing challenges, ENORISE has significantly improved the well established fuel-conditioning and consumption measurement system, FuelCon and FuelRate, by simplifying the overall design and modularizing the entire system. Design simplification and modularity make the new systems highly scalable and a safe investment.
The ENORISE FuelRate has numerous benefits only a modern device can offer: high accuracy, excellent reproducibility, robustness, high resolution… The FuelRate can be used for stationary and dynamic testing.
FuelCon Benefits

Measured fuel parameters
In addition, other measured parameters can be measured:
- Fuel density
- Fuel volume flow
- Fuel mass flow
- Fuel temperature
- Fuel pressure
- Sensor values for monitoring the sensor
- Accumulated fuel mass (resettable)
- Accumulated fuel mass (continuous counter)
- Accumulated volume flow (resettable)
- Accumulated volume flow (continuous counter)
- The actual consumption is calculated in definable time intervals.
Installation and maintenance
The system is designed to be easy to install and maintain. For example, the user can replace the Coriolis sensor with a few simple steps, even with a different sensor (measuring range).
Fuel conditioning for transient test cycles

The integrated fuel conditioning is optimized for use in transient test cycles and sets the preselected fuel temperature independently of the ambient conditions by cooling or heating.
The system design allows preconditioning of temperatures and pressures throughout the FuelCon/FuelRate system before starting the test cycle. This leads to a significant improvement of the measurement quality at the beginning of the cycle.
The overall system consists of the sub-components:
- Fuel conditioning
- Fuel consumption measurement with Coriolis sensor
- Bypass
The conditioning and consumption measurement components are installed in a compact housing for wall mounting. The bypass is supplied loose for on-site installation, close to the motor.
Automation interfaces
The system is ready for connection and can be connected to an automation system via an EtherCAT interface (optional: CAN, AK, ProfiBUS, CSM, Discrete).
The FuelRate is optimized for use in transient test cycles. The system design allows preconditioning of temperatures and pressures throughout the FuelCon/FuelRate system before the test cycle is started. This leads to a significant improvement of the measurement quality at the beginning of the cycle.
Engine-Inlet Pressure Simulation
To simulate vehicle-like pressures at the engine inlet, it is necessary to install a bypass in the immediate vicinity of the engine. Here, the internal conditioning circuit of the FuelCon is extended to the engine.
A constant upstream pressure can be set via a precision overflow valve between the fuel supply and return lines of the engine.
